Copied!

When too much time indoors (and on screens) renders each day indistinguishable from the next, it’s time to get outside. Engage with the rhythms of spring in our new scavenger hunt, and become a Neighborhood Naturalist!

Developed in partnership with the Wisconsin Master Naturalist program, this scavenger hunt introduces the concept of phenology and encourages kids and their families to spot signs of spring in their backyards and nearby greenspaces. Vast wilderness is not required! These challenges are designed to apply to a variety of landscapes, both urban and rural, across Wisconsin.

The more challenges kids complete, the more badges they earn. But be forewarned—some challenges are trickier than others. It’ll take patience, luck, and a keen eye to earn the coveted title of Neighborhood Naturalist.

Print the gamecard, or check off boxes via smartphone or tablet. For kids who earn their Neighborhood Naturalist badge, the gamecard suggests additional resources and activities to further share observations and continue learning. Signs of spring, after all, will soon make way for signs of summer. Enjoy!

For even more fun, challenge family, friends and neighbors to see who can complete the most challenges. And best of all, this can be done while maintaining safe social distancing.
